През юни 2025 г. София ще бъде домакин на Green Transition Forum 5.0 – ключово събитие, утвърдило се като символ на зелените иновации и устойчивост в Централна и Източна Европа. С традиция в утвърждаването на екологичната отговорност, този ежегоден форум е най-очакваното събитие за политици, бизнес лидери и експерти по устойчивост в региона. В своето пето издание форумът е не просто събитие, а институция.

Biography and speaker information

Уенди Франкен е водеща фигура в европейския воден сектор с над 20 години опит в управлението на отпадъчни води, устойчивата урбанизация и политиките за водна среда. През май 2023 г. тя поема председателството на Европейската водна асоциация (EWA) за мандат 2023–2025 г., наследявайки Реймънд Ерпелдинг. Преди това е била вицепрезидент на EWA и председател на Европейския политически комитет, където активно участва в диалога с институциите на ЕС по теми като Директивата за градските отпадъчни води и Зелената сделка. 

Освен ролята си в EWA, Франкен е управляващ директор на VLARIO – независима неправителствена организация във Фландрия, Белгия, която служи като консултативна платформа и информационен център за професионалисти в областта на канализацията. 

Франкен е активен говорител на международни форуми, включително конференции, организирани от IKT и IFAT, където споделя експертиза по теми като устойчиво управление на водите, адаптация към климатичните промени и иновации в градската инфраструктура.

Roxana Minzatu

Executive vice-president (2024-2029) – Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, EC

Her main task is to guide the overall work on strengthening Europe’s human capital, from skills and education to culture and sport. She is also responsible for:

  • Guiding the work on the European Pillar of Social Rights to tackle the skills and labour gaps, focusing on training and education
  • Helping to build Union of equality to create a fairer society and social model
  • Guiding the work on supporting young people and ensuring fairness between generations, through Erasmus+, Youth Policy Dialogues, better support for the mental health of our youth, strengthening our European Sport Model and promoting culture
  • Embedding a new culture of preparedness to help people adapt to change and risks

Teresa Ribera

Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, EC

Her main task is to ensure that Europe stays on track for its goals set out in the European Green Deal, while driving the decarbonisation and industrialisation of our economy. She is also responsible for:

  • Jointly coordinating the work on the Clean Industrial Deal, helping to unlock investment, boost clean tech and putting in place conditions for companies to grow and compete
  • Guiding the work implementing EU law to help reach our 2030 climate targets and to prepare a new architecture beyond 2030
  • Guiding the work to bring down energy prices, end our dependencies on fossil fuels, invest in clean energy infrastructure and address energy poverty
  • Steering investment and financing for a just and social transition, through dedicated funds and tax measures

Ekaterina Zaharieva

Commissioner (2024-2029) | Startups, Research and Innovation

Ekaterina Zaharieva is the European Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation in the 2024–2029 term of the European Commission. In this role, she is tasked with placing research, innovation, science, and technology at the heart of the EU economy, promoting investments and collaboration, and creating favorable conditions for the successful development of researchers and innovators.

Zaharieva is a former Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. She has served as a Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria and held various senior government positions, including Minister of Justice and Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works.

As Commissioner, Zaharieva focuses on reducing bureaucracy in the funding of research and innovation, creating a unified European startup ecosystem, and developing strategies to stimulate European research infrastructure and innovation.

Maroš Šefčovič

Vice-President of the EC for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight

Maroš Šefčovič is a Czechoslovak and Slovak diplomat, Slovak and European politician (European Commissioner).

He studied at the University of Economics in Bratislava (1984 – 1985), completed the full course of study (1985 – 1990) and graduated with a degree in “International Relations” at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. At the Comenius University in Bratislava, he received the scientific degrees JUDr in Law (1990) and PhD in International and European Law (2000).

Since 1995, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, he has been working on relations with the European Union and NATO. In 1998, he became chief of staff of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, then he was appointed ambassador to Tel Aviv, Israel (1999).

Since December 1, 2019, he is the vice-chairman with the “Inter-institutional relations and perspectives” department in the “Von der Leyen” Commission.

Enrico Letta

President of the Jacques Delors Institute and Former Prime Minister of Italy(2013-2014)

Enrico Letta is an Italian politician and scholar who has held key positions in Italian and European politics and academia. From April 2013 to February 2014, he served as Prime Minister of Italy, leading a national unity government during a period of economic and social crisis. In 2023, the European Commission tasked him with preparing a report on the future of the Single Market.

Letta is the President of the Jacques Delors Institute, a leading European think tank dedicated to European integration and sustainable development. He is also the Dean of the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs at IE University, Spain. From 2015 to 2021, he served as Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po, Paris. In 2019, he was elected President of APSIA (Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs).

As a minister in various cabinets, Letta has been responsible for European affairs, industrial policy, and trade. He has served as a Member of the European Parliament (2004–2006) and the Italian Chamber of Deputies (2001–2004, 2006–2008).

Prof. Daron Acemoglu

Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

On June 17, 2025, world-renowned economist and Nobel Laureate in Economics Prof. Daron Acemoglu will visit Bulgaria at the invitation of the Green Transition Forum and Dir.BG, to deliver one of the country’s most significant public lectures ever hosted.

This event is a rare opportunity to hear live from one of the most influential thinkers in modern economics — MIT professor, bestselling author, and one of the world’s most cited economists.

Kata Tüttő

President of the European Committee of the Regions

Kata Tüttő (born February 28, 1980, Budapest) is a Hungarian politician, economist and public servant, President of the European Committee of the Regions since February 2025. Formerly, she has served as Deputy Mayor of Budapest from 2019 to 2024. She now serves as the President of the European Committee of Regions and assumed office in February of 2025.

Between 1998 and 2003, she obtained a degree in economics from the Faculty of Finance and Accounting of the Budapest Business School, majoring in finance and financial institutions. In 2005, she obtained a degree in international relations from the Zsigmond Király College, majoring in European studies.

Between 2005 and 2010, she studied at the Corvinus University of Budapest, majoring in market analysis, minoring in health economics and technology analysis, where she obtained a degree in economics.

On February 19, 2025, in Brussels, she was appointed the President of the Committee of the Regions of the European Parliament, replacing Vasco Cordeiro. She is the first Hungarian person to head an EU institution.

Iliyana Tsanova

Deputy Director General of DG „Budget“ at the EC

Iliyana Tsanova is Deputy Director-General and Chief Risk Officer at DG Budget of the European Commission.

Prior to that, she was Deputy Managing Director of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), and EUR 26 billion-guarantee facility launched jointly by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank Group to boost and support investments in the European Union. She has over ten years of experience in development finance with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, UK. Iliyana has held several board positions in international infrastructure companies and investment funds. In 2013 and 2014, Iliyana was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in two consecutive caretaker governments in Bulgaria. She holds MSc in Finance from the University for National and World Economy, Bulgaria and a postgraduate diploma in Financial Management from George Washington University, USA.

David Reeser

Founder and CEO at OpiAID

David Reeser is a US-based serial entrepreneur, inventor, and startup mentor, known for his visionary work at the intersection of technology, science, and social impact. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OpiAID, a data science company using artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to enhance the safety and effectiveness of treatment for substance use disorders.

With a deep commitment to public health innovation, David founded OpiAID to provide clinicians with real-time insights that support better decision-making in addiction care. The platform enables more personalised and responsive treatment plans, working in partnership with health providers and recovery centres across the United States.
